Construction Safety Week 2026

The "Construction Safety Week 2026", jointly organised by the Development Bureau (DEVB) and the Construction Industry Council (CIC), was successfully held from 24 to 28 August. The event aims to heighten industry awareness of site safety.

This year's theme is "Build Smart. Care with Heart. Own the Task", which represents three key priorities of site safety: technology empowerment, mutual care, and fulfilling safety responsibilities. The week featured a series of activities including a conference, "Life First" safety promotion activities, an exhibition, site visits, and the 32nd Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme (CCSAS) Presentation Ceremony. In her opening remarks, Ms Bernadette Linn Hon-ho, the Secretary for Development, expressed hope that the industry would foster a people-oriented caring culture, uphold the belief that site safety is everyone's responsibility, and create a safer working environment for every construction worker striving to build Hong Kong.

Multiple project teams of DSD actively participated in various "Life First" competitions and achieved outstanding results, winning one Gold Award, one Silver Award, one Bronze Award, three Awards of Excellence, and one Award of Merit. Among them, the team of Contract No. DC/2022/01 "Drainage Improvement Works in Tsim Sha Tsui" won the Gold Award in the "Frontline Team Safety Performance Award" competition; the team of Contract No. DC/2020/02 "Construction of San Shek Wan Sewage Treatment Works, Associated Submarine Outfall and Pui O Sewerage Works" won the Silver Award in the "Build it Smart, Safety from the Start" competition, ; the team of Contract No. DC/2022/03 "Yuen Long Barrage and Nullah Improvement Schemes" won the Bronze Award in the "Construction Safety – Innovative Technologies" competition demonstrating the teams' commitment to enhancing site safety standards.

Furthermore, at the 32nd Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme (CCSAS), DSD's project teams achieved remarkable and encouraging results, winning one Gold Award, two Silver Awards, two Bronze Awards, and four Merit Awards. Notably, Contract No. DC/2022/03 "Yuen Long Barrage and Nullah Improvement Schemes" won the Silver Award for the "Considerate Contractors Site Award" in the "Public Works – New Works" category, the Gold Award for the "Innovation Award for Safety and Environmental Excellence", and the Silver Award for the "Outstanding Environmental Management Performance Award". These accolades fully recognise the project team's long-standing outstanding performance in safety, innovation, and environmental protection.
